Turbeskrivelse
This is a pleasant circular tour around Hovingham. I parked on the main street in the village, near to the shop, but there is also parking on Potticar Bank, just before the turn off to Middle Way. Parking where I did involved a walk along the High Street and then up Potticar Bank and finally turned left up the farm track of Middle Way.
The broad farm track climbs up and finally enters South Wood, where it becomes a path to emerge from the wood and then cross a field of wheat to Moor House Farm. Here, I turned right along another farm track to the main road (Potticar Bank again).
I turned right here and just had a very short stretch of road walking before I could turn left and follow the path along a field edge. I turned right along a quiet country lane to walk past Hovingham Lodge before turning right to follow a path across a field.
Just after a beck, I turned right and walked along close to the beck. Just before a wood, the path became very overgrown. It was like that for two or three hundred yards.
I had hoped to go on another path straight across from the one I had left, but it was closed, so I had to walk along the road. It was another couple of hundred yards before I could leave the road and walk across the fine old bridge on the Hovingham Estate. From the bridge, there is a view to Hovingham Hall in the distance. That is probably the highlight of the tour.
Climbing up the ridge after the bridge, the route is to the right and not to the left on a track. There is a gate on the right, taking you to a path along a line of trees. Along this way is the only stile on the route.
After that, the route comes into Hovingham alongside Marr's Brook, where there are two little bridges and a ford. Turn right there and back to the car.
